Unplugged - heat

The theme for this weeks Unplugged Project was heat.

Hermione placed two spoons in her hot chocolate - one metal and one plastic. The metal one got hot and the plastic one didn't. A very simple experiment in heat conduction. An experiment requiring minimum mummy effort *blush*.

We also rubbed our hands together very briskly and noted that they got warm. Friction causes heat. We did that one while drinking the said hot chocolate.

Goodness, what a laid back attitutude I'm developing to science.

I love that you took the science approach. I always end up going crafty - must remember that these other ways exist too! Thanks for sharing. Always cool to have a quick real world example to set a concept in motion.

Some call it "laid back" but I prefer to see it as "using everyday opportunities" to learning about science. :) This was a perfect example of that.

Great science experiment! I always try and think of something crafty but maybe I should try the science approach next time *grin* Fun stuff!

Last week my rough project was so simple, I didn't even post it. I like that someone else does the simple ones too! I think you get bonus points for having a science lesson in there. :)

You have a wonderful approach to science!

How silly that I had completely forgotten about the spoon thing. My kids would love it, and it is so simple. Thanks for the reminder!

By the way, I haven't been by since I went away in early June. I am just starting to try to get back into the blogging thing. I really like your new blog look! Very minimalist and attractive.

I hope your summer has been pleasant.
